Moonshine Cider and Rum Bar Manly

On a recent trip to the Q Station in Manly we checked out Moonshine Cider and Rum Bar.

Moonshine has taken up residence on the rooftop at the well-known Manly drinking institution, the Hotel Steyne, perfect spot across the road from Manly beach. Specialising in only rum and cider it makes Moonshine a pretty unique bar. With 16 ciders on tap and over a 100 rums to choose from you should be able to find something you like - and have fun trying.

The interior is decked out in sea faring memorabilia - murals, dark wood, heavy ropes, hanging lanterns, etc and a stage for the bands, as they have live music on Thursday and Sunday nights. The outside terrace is well designed to maximise the space and provide wonderful views of the beach - great for people watching.

We visited on a Sunday afternoon which is when they only sell cider. As I really don't know much about cider other than the usual brands like Strongbow and Bulmers, my order was influenced by the design on the label, maybe it's a girl thing!

We both started off with the Monteiths Crushed Pear and the Dirty Grannys. They are so easy to drink as they taste just like fizzy juice and mine was clear so it looked like lemonade, very deceptive. With the first drinks dispensed with fairly quickly, we ordered another round, this time the The Hills Pear and Monteiths Crushed Apple. Again they were both great, I think I'm now a cider convert.

The combination of the location, views, great ciders, chilled atmosphere, will definitely bring us back. I think I feel a Sunday afternoon session at Moonshine coming on.
